4/30, Burlingame - "March Through Main Street" anti-war action

by James (splee2000 [at] aol.com)
Come help us bring the reality of the people's discontent with war and empire to the wealthy oasis of BURLINGAME.
Anti-war action

Friday, April 30th, 2004

Meet at the Burlingame Train Depot

290 CALIFORNIA DR
BURLINGAME, CA

At 4:30 PM

Most protest rallies and demonstrations take place in the city, where oftentimes, the protestors are preaching to the converted.

Meanwhile, life in Suburbia is absolutely “business as usual.”

It is time the anti-war movement brings the philosophy of “NO business as usual” to the suburbs.

Isolation, ignorance, complacency…Smash them!

Come help us bring the reality of the people's discontent with war and empire to the wealthy oasis of BURLINGAME.

During the upcoming "Days of Mourning and Resistance”

Friday, April 30th, 2004

Meet at the Burlingame Train Depot

290 CALIFORNIA DR
BURLINGAME, CA

At 4:30 PM

March will proceed up Burlingame Avenue and through Hillsborough (one of the 5 riche$t towns in America) to our destination, THE BURLINGAME COUNTRY CLUB.

It will be up to the participants as to how radical the march will be and what kinds of actions we will take.

And when you get to the gates of the Burlingame Country Club, you will be turned away by security for being the rabble that you are. Suburbs are not isolated, actually they are quite alike all over the country. They are inhabited by people who are successful, educated adults, some with kids and some without. There are all kinds of people. But, of course, you wouldn't know this, since your type rarely ventures out of the warped environment of SF. But don't worry, suburbanites have no intention of invading your domain. Some work here and hurry home to the leafy burbs, where life is pleasant and relaxed. We will leave you with your natural constituency: the idle, the insane, the slothful, the poor, the tired "activists" and the rest. You are most certainly welcome to them.

I'm sorry to inform you that you're an idiot, sfres. I live in the suburbs; I know yuppies firsthand. Well, I'm sick of suburbia and of suburbanites. That's why I'm organizing this protest. And yes, I know you people who are proud of your lame-ass suburban lives won't "invade" the city. You're perfectly content to support invasions of other countries, though, to steal their oil and resources and spread global capitalism, the sick, selfish system that supports your sick, selfish lifestyle. Fuck you and your SUVs.

it's great to see something like this organized on the peninsula! how much publicity have you done for this? i know TONS of people who would love to be a part of this, if they knew about it. i don't know where you've announced this, but may i make some suggestions?

- the Ecolibrium infoshop in Burlingmane off of Broadway
- the Peninsula Peace and Justice Center
- San Mateo Peace Action

and i know there's a bunch of anarchist kids in palo alto who'd probably be down to do something at this action. you can find their email on an old post on this site about a conference and RTS they had a couple of months ago.

oh, and tomorrow (friday, april 23) there's a picket at the Putnam Hummer dealership in Burlingame that you could flyer at.

youv'e probably thought of all this, but i just though i'd suggest them just in case!

good luck and thank you for organizing this!!!

i did hear about the hummer protest, and was able to go today for a few minutes and talk to the people there about the march. i did not however think about ecolibrium; i'll definitely stop by there. an acquaintance on the san mateo peace action leadership council is supposedly working to get peace action onboard, but whether or not they will is iffy to say the least. i have not yet contacted peninsula peace and justice although that is now definitely on my to-do list. thanks very much for the comments. if you would be interested in helping organize this thing, for example, passing out flyers to the kids you mentioned, or even just to say you'll be coming (i'm trying to gage what numbers we'll get), send me an e-mail or phone me. thanks again.

p.s.: i'll also have a rudimentary flyer that i made up on the internet by the end of the day. and probably more flyers will be coming. it would REALLY HELP A LOT if anyone would print some off and pass them out. give 'em to friends and acquaintances or go paste 'em around where you live. i don't have much money, so i need all the help i can get with advertising. plus it's a way to participate in creating an action instead of just "consuming" actions. thanks everybody.

This is gonna be great. You thought SFPD had a heavy hand...LOL...LOL...LOL....LOL. Just wait, you guys act foolish down here, your in for a whole lotta trouble. I can't wait to see the news (none of my cars will be anywhere near this thing). If you act the way you do with SFPD, I predict, a lengthy trip to the hospital and then a longer stay in jail.
