by upton sinclair(repost from Alameda Times..)
"Before the meeting, supporters of Henry and Noble called for Word to fire Yoell..."
"This officer should be fired today, not tomorrow or next week," said Malaika Parker, director of Bay Area Police Watch. "We demand justice."

Police officers accused of using excessive force in drug case could be disciplined, Chief Word says

By Heather MacDonald, STAFF WRITER

OAKLAND -- An Oakland police lieutenant accused of deliberately hitting a fleeing teenager suspected of dealing drugs on an East Oakland street corner with an unmarked police car refused Thursday to participate in a Citizens' Review Board hearing on the matter.

Two other officers accused of making an unlawful arrest, using excessive force and being rude and unprofessional also refused to testify on advice of their lawyer, who called the long-scheduled hearing "political grandstanding."

The officers, Lt. Michael Yoell, Officer Ryan Gill and Officer Ramon Alcantar, could be disciplined for walking out of the hearing, said Police Chief Richard Word.

Good to see that at least there is some posturing going on about this, though we will probably still have to go to City Council about this at their next meeting on April 6.
