How come progressive California can't stop Schwarzenegger?

by Dancing Dave (davidk [at] oz-online.net)
Whatever happened to enlightened California?
Hey man, clue me in about this. I live in the Midwest, and whenever I visit California it seems like a more progressive, open-minded and liberal place. But then you can't even get the various progressive and liberal factions together well enough to stop a total Fascist from becoming Governor, and now he gets his budget through a popular election as well. Why can't you guys just get your act together at such crucial moments in a democratic society?

My state has a slight majority of Republicans, but we would never elect a stupid fascist like Schwarzenegger to be Gorvernor of Kansas! Indeed, we have Democratic state Governor right now because the guy the Republican party nominated for Governor even seemed like a stupid fascist to quite a few Republican voters in this state. And he wasn't nearly as bad or corrupt as Schwarzenegger!!!

Will you people EVER get your act together enough to make California a progressive state again??? You do have to be able to win state-wide elections to do that. That is absolutely a pre-requisate for making any of your progressive ideas into realities. How come there aren't more realistic strategies at a site like this for winning some elections?
