Education not Incarceration next steps meeting: Monday,
7-9PM Neibel Proctor Library, 6501 Telegraph (just
North of Alcatraz in N. Oakland, Near the Ashby BART).
While State Administrator Randy Ward threatens to
close 5 Oakland schools to potentially save 1.2
million dollars, Alameda County is spending 177
million dollars to build a new jail for children.
Come organize a response! Our community forum last
Saturday was immensely successful drawing 120 people
(twice the number expected!) from every element of the
Oakland and greater Bay Area community, ranging from
students to parents, to union leaders, faith leaders,
the Oakland School Board president, community
organizers, prison activists, and many more!! We
discussed the state budget and the education and
incarceration crisis in Oakland, and potential actions
we can take. This Monday we will organize our next
steps.
