Outsourcing Payback Time

by Liberez L'Ours
A discussion of the problem of outsourcing. Provides ethical, practical suggestions on how to deal with the Corporados.

Outsourcing Payback Time! Voting Your Dollars.

U.S. Corporations that sent American jobs overseas for the purpose of serving American customers more profitably have crossed the line.

If you agree then read on. I will share some ideas for making your opinions known and felt.

Your elected representatives may not be listening, and your vote may not be counted, but I guarantee that your dollars are counted by the Corporados -- who then use the revenues to bribe your elected representatives, who then ignore your concerns.

The topic is therefore, voting your dollars. Every dollar you spend or invest is a vote. If the companies you patronize are betraying you and the rest of America then "vote" for a different company. Or just stop spending until they all get the message, loud and clear.

The Outsourcing Problem: It Is An Insult!

Outsourcing is not inherently bad. It is simply hiring another company that specializes in a certain skill. For example, a local accounting firm "outsources" plumbing repairs rather than retaining a full-time plumber on staff. Or, a home-based business may begin to grow using a staffing company to avoid bureaucratic entanglements and legal costs. The problem with outsourcing is not improved efficiencies resulting from divisions of labor.

Nor is there anything wrong, per se, with a large corporation hiring foreign workers to work in foreign factories and foreign offices that provide goods and services to customers in that host country. We like it when Toyota builds auto factories in America so why should we object when Intel builds chip factories in Ireland to build microprocessors to be sold to European customers?

No. The outsourcing "problem" is the insult to Americans by American companies that fire American workers and then hire foreign workers to provide goods and services to the Americans that got fired. Perhaps you have experienced this yourself when you phoned your financial institution and an Indian or Filipino answered your call. Or perhaps your friend got fired so that the Bank of Fascism or the Totalitarian Express Company could save money by hiring programmers overseas to work on American accounting systems.

Do you feel insulted? I do. For these very same companies that are screwing American workers so that corporate earnings per share can increase by a penny each quarter are probably also cutting corners and reducing service quality. And the same corporate bigwigs that never consider outsourcing their own jobs are laughing all the way to the bank with their 8 figure salaries, bonuses, stock options and "golden parachutes". And these same corporados are probably trying to nickel-and-dime you to death, or to charge you usurious interest rates on their credit cards while paying you diddly-squat interest on your savings account.

Ethically Monkey-Wrenching The Corporados!

Simply: there is no reason to take it any longer! If these American corporations can outsource their workers then we can outsource our business. If they don't need us, then we don't need them either. The sword cuts both ways!

Remaining loyal to a company that is screwing you and your country is misguided and self-destructive.

Here are practical ideas on how to vote your dollars:

  1. Switch your accounts to foreign companies that have graciously set up subsidiaries in America and are providing jobs to Americans. For some strange reason, companies in other countries want to do business here and to employ Americans. Isn't that nice. Perhaps they deserve a vote of thanks. Vote with your dollars!
  2. Switch your accounts to local companies. For example, a local credit union in your home town may provide better service and pay higher interest than the greedy vampires who brazenly borrowed America's good name and then used your money to bribe your government.
  3. If you are really pissed, "outsource" your money all the way!!! Take it completely out of the country until the military-industrial-mediatainment complex decides to govern according to the Constitution instead of the whims of immoral, corrupt figures like Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Ashcroft, Rice, DeLay, etc.
  4. Shop used. Barter. Try www.craigslist.org for free stuff -- and give away things you no longer need.
  5. Stop shopping! Learn to enjoy the free things! Then take the money you save and invest in gold or silver thereby take your dollars out of "the system". Period. Bada-Bing, Bada-Boom!

[Note: I don't want to "name names", but ... for higher interest rates think of something that rhymes with Orange. Or to liberate your dollars completely, look up the Royal Bank of Canada on the internet. Other choices abound. You can find what you need with google, a phone, and a bit of research.]

Conclusion: Live Free Or Starve and Die.

Some persons might argue that fighting global labor arbitrage is like fighting against computers and automation, or fighting against the automobile to save the jobs of buggy whip factory workers.

Others might argue that fighting against greedy corporations who fire Americans for the mere sake of short-term profits is a fight against Freedom and Capitalism.

And still others might argue that I am engaging in demagoguery,- that I am appealing to your emotions instead of your reason.

Only the last objection has any merit. Damn fricking right I am appealing to your emotions! I am mad, I am not gonna take it anymore, and I encourage you to get mad too and then go do something!

I am not against "freedom" or progress. I am for freedom. I say BE FREE. Live free and be free. Freely do business with companies that aren't screwing you and your country. I argue for doing business with companies that provide good service at a fair price and do the right thing for the citizens in the places where they do business. That is not a lot to ask.
