The World Social Forum (WSF) 2004 together with the Intercontinental Youth Camp (IYC) 2004 are taking place in Bombay (Mumbai), India from January 16th to 21th 2004.
At the moment in Mumbai alone there are several hundred volunteers and payed people in and around the WSF office and the IYC office working to organise the events and mobilise people all over the world to come in January to the WSF and the IYC. In Dheli there is a second office which is in charge of the program and the content. All over India NGOs are mobilizing there members and friends to come.
The ¨media and communication" groups of the WSF and IYC hold campaigns to inform the people and get media attention. For example a group of volunteers toured trought various colleges in Mumbai and held there an banner campaign, as you can see at the photo from the IIT College. Another action were the painting of local/suburban trains in collaboration with local artists. This action got a lot of media attention. Additionally a international group of youth worked four nights to cover streets and walls with slogans, symbols and pictures related to globalisation, capitalism, imperialism, racism, casteism, patriarchy, injustice etc...
Not only the number of volunteers is going up every day but also the number of interested journalist and tv channels. these days there is no day passing by in the office without many photophers, journalists, camerateams and interviews.
The first indymedia team from Canada arrived two days ago and is going to document especially the IYC 2004.
