The SHORTWAVE REPORT 8/15/03 ¡Listen Globally!

by Dan Roberts (outfarpress [at] saber.net)
A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinion recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quick download (3.3MB). With times and freqs for listening at home. Free to rebroadcast. Netherlands, Spain, Russia, China, and Cuba.
Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (August 15) is up at the websitehttp://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (29:08) It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday evening at 7pm on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via http://www.kzyx.org
There are several other streams that work better- http://www.freakradio.org Freak Radio Santa Cruz (96.3fm) now streams this program on Friday at 9:30am (PDST)
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)- http://www.radiolavalamp.org
streaming the SWR, check out the schedule.
And the Partytown streams are great and informative- http://www.partytown.com/radio
This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, Spanish National Radio, the Voice of Russia, China Radio International, and Radio Havana Cuba.
From Netherlands- Ricardo Largos, President of Chile, has created a program of reconciliation for the victims and perpetrators of the Pinochet coup and military rule. This controversial proposal will hopefully answer many questions.
From Spain- In Argentina, the government is dropping the amnesty protecting members of the military who murdered and tortured citizens during the so-called “dirty war.” The Mexican government has praised the Zapatistas and will enter peace talks. The Columbian army is stepping up its extermination of FARC rebels. Spanish prosecutors are opening a case against a Basque leader who watched a Spanish flag being burned at a rally. The US Pentagon has determined that the US military was justified in murdering journalists in Bagdhad. The Spanish Defense Minister denies he indoctrinated top military officials into believing Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction. In Iraq, violence continues to spread, with huge discrepancies between military and civilian reporting.
From Russia- A commentary on the apparent suicide of David Kelly, the government weapons advisor whose reports to Tony Blair were modified and used to justify Britains invasion of Iraq.
From China- An analysis of why the people of southern Iraq began rioting over the weekend. N Korea reasserted its demand that the US sign a non-aggression treaty to solve the nuclear crisis. N Korea also condemned the presence of S Korean warships in its territorial waters.
From Cuba- Iraq’s governing council has warned the US military that its aggressive tactics are not winning the hearts and minds of the Iraqi people. Former Nicaraguan President Allemand is in jail on corruption charges and will face prosecution in the US.
All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt!
