The SHORTWAVE REPORT 6/13/03 ¡Listen Globally!

by Dan Roberts (outfarpress [at] saber.net)
A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinion recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quick download (3.3MB). With times and freqs for listening at home. Free to rebroadcast. Spain, Germany, Russia, Netherlands, China, and Cuba.
Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (June 13) is up at the websitehttp://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (29:12) It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday evening at 7pm on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via http://www.kzyx.org
There are several other streams that work better- http://www.freakradio.org Freak Radio Santa Cruz (96.3fm) now streams this program on Friday at 9:30am (PDST)
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)- http://www.radiolavalamp.org
streaming the SWR, check out the schedule.
And the Partytown streams are great and informative- http://www.partytown.com/radio
This week's show features stories from Spanish National Radio, Radio Deutsche Welle, the Voice Of Russia, Radio Netherlands, China Radio International, and Radio Havana Cuba.
From Spain- Numerous short reports from SNR. The topics include Iraqi POWS, OPEC’s refusal to deal with Iraq’s oil until there is an internationally recognized Iraqi government, Cuba is extremely angry over being shunned by the EU, kidnapped oil workers in Peru were set free, N Korea will avoid an Asian Pacific Security summit, a possible cease-fire in the Phillipines, civilian deaths in the war on Indonesian rebels, and the resignation of the President of Kazakhstan.
From Germany- A review of the swelling controversy about the absence of any evidence of WMD in Iraq- this story includes interviews with members of the UN Weapons Inspection Team, who are now free to discuss their findings.
From Russia- Hans Blix, outgoing head of the UN weapons inspection team, says the US is slandering him and that they tried to pressure the team for false reports. The US-based Pew Research Center released the results of international attitudes toward US policy.
From Netherlands- Cuba is furious about the EU’s sanctions against the island. The possible expansion of the US detention center in Guantanemo Bay, to include a court and electric chair is causing outrage in Europe and beyond.
From China- Every day China airs “Press Clippings”- on Wednesday they discussed China-India relationships, the evolving government transparency in China, and the first successful sexual harassment in China.
From Cuba- According to Cuba, the EU is just following the dictates of the US in reacting to Cuba’s imprisonment of many dissidents. Cuba feels that the EU has reached a new level of hypocrisy by taking this stand, while remaining quiet as the US discards international laws and treaties.
All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt!
