The SHORTWAVE REPORT 11/1/02 ¡Listen Globally!

by Dan Roberts (outfarpress [at] saber.net)
A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinion recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quick download (3.3MB). With times and freqs for listening at home. Free to rebroadcast. Russia, Cuba, Germany, Netherlands, China.
Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (November 1) is up at the website http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality 13.3MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (29:17) It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired at 7pm PST this Friday evening at KZYX/Z Philo CA and you should be able to stream via http://www.kzyx.org/
There are several other streams that work quite well- http://members.cruzio.com/~frsc/ Freak Radio Santa Cruz streams this program on Friday at 5:35pm (PST) and on Monday at 9amPST.
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)- http://www.rinku.zaq.ne.jp/bkaec205/
streaming the SWR at Fri 9:30PM/ Sat 9:30AM PM/ Sun 9:30AM PST
and the Partytown streams are great and informative- http://www.partytown.com/radio
This week's show features stories from the Voice Of Russia, Radio Havana Cuba, Radio Deutsche Welle, Radio Netherlands, and China Radio International.
From Russia- Russia describes the gas used in the hostage situation and how it saved 750 people. The US military has been testing these sedative gases for 3 years, and may have used them on Al-Qaeda prisoners.
From Cuba- Further details about the current US military development of chemical and biological weapons.
From Germany- While the focus of the Russian hostage crisis has been the gas used by the Russians, the goal of the event was to bring the Chechen situation to an international audience- here’s a report from Amnesty International. The Iraqi VP says that the goal of the US resolution on Iraq is not to inspect but attack.
From Netherlands- An interview with the former UN Humanitarian coordinator who has returned from checking on the alleged weapons factories in Iraq. The US has begun releasing a small group of its prisoners in Guantanemo Bay- here it is described by a Pakistani newspaper editor.
From China- The Irish Republican Army has broken off contact with the international commission overseeing its disarmament. China has condemned Falun Gong for hacking into China’s satellite TV network. Then an editorial about the negative influence of TV and film on China’s youth, and that overseas students become compulsive consumers.
All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt!
