In Bangladesh,Garment workers demanded - Fair wages and Fair trade. In a demonstration in capital city Dhaka , workers raised this issue. More than hundred workers including women workers from different garment factories participated in the demonstration. It was organised by the National Garments Workers Federation. Workers staged this demontration from 11 a.m to 12 noon on 14th October,2002.

During the demontration, it was addressed among others Amirul Haque Amin,Miss shahida Sarker, Mojibur Rahman Pintu, Mrs Arifa Akter,Alam Kabir and Mrs. Nahar.

The speaker mentioned that-Bangladeshi garments workers are in bad conditions.Till now, sewing helpers are receiving tk.930/($16 ) per month. Operators are receiving tk. 1500/ to Tk. 2200/ ($25 to $ 37) per month.Their other facilities are low. Working conditions also poor. Why this bad condition ? Bangladeshi garment owners are exployting the garment workers. On the other hand , the MNC,s are main responsible for these bad conditions. MNC,s sell a Bangladeshi T-Shirt in $20 to $25 in USA or other developed countries. But they buy this T-shirt from Bangladesh against of $2. Sameway MNC,s sell a Bangladeshi Denim Shirt in $30 to $40 in USA or other developed countries. But they buy this shirt from Bangladesh against of only $4 to $5.

The speakers said- this is not the Fair trade or fair price. They also mentioned that- this unfair and unjustified trade of the MNC,s,are also responsible for the bad conditions of the Bangladeshi garment workers.

The speakers also criticised that- USA and their other institutions always prescribing about the Open Market and Free Economy. But they are not giving Duty Free and Quota Free access of Bangladeshi garments products in the USA market. As a result, garment workers are in more threat.

The speakers urged the International Community for Duty Free & Quota free access of Bangladeshi garments products in USA market and for the Fair Trade for the MNC,s.

In the Attached file there are two picture of the Demonstration.
