Pictures From March To Federal Building

by stop the war
On Oct 9th at 4:30PM a crowd of several hundred gathered at Montgomery St BART station to protest the vote by the US House for a war in Iraq. Around 5 PM the march moved up Market St to the Federal Building. Many of the demonstrators are planning on sleeping in front of the Federal Building tonight and blockading it in the morning at 7AM as an act of civil disobedience.

The march from Montgomery and Market started slow, felt dis-spirited. Along the way, with the help of the supportive people of SF along the streets, we picked up steam and energy.

The chants were fresh - thank you Starhawk and friends.

The gathering at the Federal Building was momentous. I really feel like we are starting something. Instead of the usual rhetoric - preaching to the converted - real organizing was going on. Creativity, acknowlegement of the spirit and a call to arms was the order of the day.

I will be back tomorrow morning with coffee and food to support those who are, right now (10:48 pm), holding it down for the morning's action.

Rise Up!

Some people may not know that the poster the elderly woman is holding "war is bad for children and other living things." was well used during the Vietnam war. The photo of the lady and the man is excellent.

I like the sign of “We’re Here, We’re Queer, We’re Not Invading The World”. The queers may not be invading the world, but they certainly are invading the streets of SF.
