Oaktown BART ads - you decide
I think it's wrong to try to shame people into things. Oakland needs positive solutions, not these sorts of subtle class attacks.
Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think you 'clean up' a city by ridiculing people and trying to shame them.
Why aren't these ads asking why the Oakland school yards are not yards at all, but huge paved-over areas the size of parking lots surrounded by high chain link fences, all filled with African American kids?
Why aren't they asking why two *huge* police corruption cases have or are happening in Oakland recently - Judi Bari and the Riders?
Why aren’t they asking why so many African American’s get asked - when pulled over by the cops - if they’re on probation?
Why aren’ these ads trying to help stop the increasing violence, instead of trying to shame and ridicule people about trash?
I think it’s wrong to try to change a city through shame and intimidation directed at low income people. It’s one thing to sell out the city to developers, but it’s another thing to attack people while they’re riding public transit.
Maybe we should tell these people - who seem to represent the ‘City of Oakland,’ - what we think.
