Major Road Rage at Sacramento's Critical Mass Ride

by One Pissed Off Rider
Last Friday's Sacto CM ride was a complete disaster!!! We had bottles thrown at us, one driver repeatedly tried to 'door' the riders, one rider had his video camera smashed, and another had his bicycle crushed.
Only sixteen riders gathered at capital building in Sacramento for this month's Critical Mass ride. Because of our small numbers, it was decided to take only two lanes of a three lane street, and leave a passing lane for drivers. A fucking lot of good this did us. Drivers were throwing bottles at us. One car pulled into the third lane, alongside the Mass, and repeatedly tried to 'door' riders. Another driver passed us, parked, walked back and smashed another riders. video camera This driver then walked back to his car, surrounded by angry cyclists and a local security guard. He got back into his car and sped off, crushing another riders bicycle in the process. The security guard threw his flashlight at the fleeing vehicle, but missed. The Sacto piggies were then called and eventually showed up, taking statements and generally behaving in a 'professional' manner. Video was taken of these events, and will doubtlesly be posted at this site at a later date.

We desperately need to have more riders participating in the Sacto Mass in order to dampen the road rage.
The ride gathers at the 5:00 on the first Friday of each month and rides at 6:00. An SF riders don't even need to use Autosaurs to get there. There is an AMTRAK train that carries bikes and runs from Emeryville to Sacto.
We gather at the Emeryville AMTRAK station at about 1:30 and arrive in Sacto at about 4:00.
