The SHORTWAVE REPORT 7/5/02 ¡Listen Globally!

by Dan Roberts (outfarpress [at] saber.net)
A 30 minute review of international news and opinions recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- broadcast-13.3MB & quick/streaming-3.3MB. With times and freqs for listening at home. Free to rebroadcast upon notification. Netherlands, Germany, Spain, and Cuba
Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (July 5) is up at the website http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality 13.3MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (29:00) It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired at 7pm PDST this Friday evening at KZYX/Z Philo CA and you MIGHT be able to stream via http://www.kzyx.org/ (It hasn't worked recently)
There are several other streams that work quite well- http://members.cruzio.com/~frsc/ Freak Radio Santa Cruz streams this program on Friday at 5:35pm and on Monday at 9am.
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)- http://www.rinku.zaq.ne.jp/bkaec205/
streaming the SWR at Fri 10:30PM/ Sat 10:30AM PM/ Sun 10:30AM PST
and the Partytown streams are great and informative- http://www.partytown.com/radio
This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, Radio Deutsche Welle, Spanish National Radio, and Radio Havana Cuba.
From Netherlands- The Chilean Supreme Court has ruled that former dictator Augusto Pinochet is mentally incompetent to stand trial for war crimes. The Cuban govt has accused US exiles of organizing an exodus of boat refugees. The International Criminal Court began work Monday with the US refusing to join- the US congress is considering the American Serviceman Protection Act, called the Hague Invasion Act in Europe.
From Germany- England’s Tony Blair is working to get beyond Bush’s withdrawal from the International Criminal Court; then a press review from Wednesday covering the US bombing of an Afghan wedding and the latest US financial scandals; the White House makes excuses for Bush’s personal financial scams ten years ago; the European Paliament voted to require all genetically modified foods are clearly labelled.
From Spain- the former Mexican President was called before a prosecutor regarding the student massacres in 1968 and 1971; a Presidential election in Bolivia had no clear winner, but quite a range of candidates; the latest Argentine President has called for new elections in March to avoid being run out by protestors.
From Cuba- a report from Radio Havana Cuba, which has improved but not completely fixed its signal quality. Columbia’s right-wing paramilitary death squads have gotten a fresh supply of assault rifles and ammunition thanks to the combined efforts of Nicaraguan and Israeli militaries.
All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station.
I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt!
