U.S. Vetoes U.N. Security Council to Threaten the new International Criminal Court (6:06)
In a last ditch effort to exempt U.S. troops from arrest and prosecution from the formation of the International Criminal Court that begins tomorrow, the U.S. vetoes a peacekeeping extension of Nato-led forces in Bosnia. This is KPFA News coverage from the Sunday night evening news.
Listen now:
The United States astonished the world today as it vetoed a United Nations' extension of the 18,000-member Nato-led U.N. peackeeping force in Bosnia. The move is the United States' attempt to gain complete immunity for U.S. Peacekeepers from the international criminal court that goes into force on July 1--regardless of the United States halting the Bosnia Peacekeeping operations. Listen to the complete report including interviews with Phyllis Benis, fellow from the Institute of Policy Studies, and John Washburn, convener of the Coalition for the International Court, a network of over 1,000 civil organizations around the world advocating for the formation of the International Criminal Court.
