'Arise...' is a monthly open mic joint for conscious hip hop, spoken word/poetry in Oakland, created due to the noticeable shortage of venues for conscious, independent hip hop open mic in the East Bay area. We strive to provide a friendly, positive space and environment to help build a strong revolutionary anti-authoritarian culture. We advocate anti-corporate, do-it-yourself principles and open participation as well as actively opposing sexism, homophobia, racism and all forms of oppressive behaviors wherever they exist.

Arise... is a not-for-profit event. All proceeds go to benefit RACE (Revolutionary Anti-Authoritarians of Color), a bay area-based group for anti-authoritarian activists/organizers of color. (http://passionbomb.com/race)

BART direction: Get off MacArthur BART. Walk east along 40th St. past Telegraph for about 5 blocks. It's next door to the laundromat between Shafter Ave and Opal St. at 379 40th St. in Oakland.
