Sun-Tue: Memorial service for homeless who die on SF's streets
3-Day Memorial Service for the homeless that have died on the streets of San Francisco.
We invite you and your family and friends to participate in the following
event sponsored by Religious Witness with Homeless People. If you want
leaflets or other detailed material related to this event, see information
provided at end of this mailing.
3-Day Memorial Service
May 19-20-21
Dramatic Opening Service:
Sunday, May 19, 3:00 pm
SF Civic Center Plaza
Polk Street end
In the very heart of this City, we will erect a Memorial Wall, 88 feet long,
bearing the names of the nearly 1,900 (partial list) women, children and men
who have died homeless in San Francisco over the past 15 years, since such
records have been kept. Each year over 100 people die homeless in San
Francisco, a community tragedy that continues unabated.
Even as we gather to remember and to reflect on this social tragedy and moral
shame, our city officials work out next fiscal year's budget allocations. We
gather in the shadow of City Hall to remember those who have died and demand
that our leaders refrain from budget cuts in areas that critically affect
poor and homeless people: funding for decent, affordable housing, adequate
healthcare and substance abuse treatment services, adequate safe shelters.
