The Shortwave Report 5/3/02 ¡LISTEN GLOBALLY!

by Dan Roberts (outfarpress [at] saber.net)
A 30 minute review of international news and opinions recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- broadcast-13.5MB & quick/streaming-3.4MB. With times and freqs for listening at home. Free to rebroadcast upon notification. Netherlands, Cuba, and Germany.
Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (May 3) is up at the website http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality 13.5MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.4MB) (29:41) It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired at 7pm PST this Friday evening at KZYX/Z Philo CA and you MIGHT be able to stream via http://www.kzyx.org/
There are several other streams that work quite well- http://members.cruzio.com/~frsc/ Freak Radio Santa Cruz streams this program on Friday at 5:35pm and on Monday at 9am.
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)- http://www.rinku.zaq.ne.jp/bkaec205/
streaming the SWR at Fri 9:30PM/ Sat 9:30AM PM/ Sun 9:30AM PST
This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, Radio Havana Cuba, and Radio Deutsche Welle.
From Netherlands- the US has indicted the FARC rebel group in Columbia with the murder of 3 US citizens; the US has increased financial aid to the Columbian Army; the US has regained its seat on the UN Human Rights Commission by getting Italy and Spain to withdraw their candidacies; 2 Dutch investigators report that what occurred in Jenin was not a massacre, but that Israel is guilty of war crimes; India successfully tested a cruise missle on Monday, further ratcheting the tension with Pakistan; religious violence continues in India, and human rights groups say they have evidence that the ruling BJP party is sponsoring the anti-Moslem attacks.
From Cuba- there are further allegations that the US was involved in the attempted coup of Pres Hugo Chavez of Venezvuela; S African Archbishop Desmond Tutu has accused Israel of practicing Apartheid in Palestine; the success of far-right candidate LePen in the primary Pres elections in France led to huge May Day demonstrations and editorializing- yet the rise of the far-right is widespread in Europe and this editorial examines that.
From Germany- the Pres of the European Commission has attacked Israel for blocking the UN investigation into the events in Jenin; a report from Man & Environment on the status of whales just before the opening of the annual International Whaling Conference. Japan and Norway want to end the so-called ban on whaling; and Japan is making offers to developing countries to buy the votes to end the ban.
All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station.
I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners)
are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt!
