Infiltrated policemen during demonstrations in Brazil (photo by Latuff)

by Latuff (latuff [at] uninet.com.br)
Two agents in plainclothes during a demonstration of students in downtown Rio de Janeiro. One of them, with a videocamera, reveals under his shirt the barrel of a Taurus pistol. Such surveillance from "secret" agents is almost a standard procedure in our so-called "democracy".

F**K THE POLICE!

Gun barrel, cell phone - how can you tell from this picture? My Motorola StarTac has about the same shape and size on my belt. And I carry a camcorder - how long until I'm photographed as "an undercover cop" and posted up here?

Seems like a weird way to hold a gun, but it does look similar to:

The ones you need to worry about are not the plain clothes cops at demos. The ones you need to worry about are the deep cover infiltrators. They come to meetings, move into your flats, get high and sleep with you. Then they turn you in. Twenty years ago at Seabrook, New Hampshire, for example, one of them seduced an anti-nuclear activist and moved in with her. Periodically, he'd sneak off to visit his wife and kids, a couple towns away. When he finally surfaced, she couldn't believe what a fool she'd been, and continued to defend him, even after he dumped her unceremoniously. By all accounts, he appeared to be a really nice guy. Keyword: appeared. He stuffed envelopes, wheat pasted, cooked, did dishes, did housework, drove people around, and was really well liked by the activists he befriended.

This is a true story, and not the only one like it, not by a long chalk.

Interesting side note: Current US Supreme justice David Souter was the New Hampshire attorney general at the time. During his confirmation hearings he lied under oath about this case.

As long as Brazil wins the World Cup, the general population could give a shit, and Latuff know it!!
