2--WHAT IS THE PEOPLE'S MARCH?
The Second Annual Santa Barbara People's March for Economic Justice is right
around the corner!
The People's March will be held on April 27, 2002. The March will begin at
12:00 p.m. in Ortega Park (downtown Santa Barbara, at Ortega and Salsipuedes
Streets) and wind it's way to the Sunken Gardens at the Courthouse.
Speakers on a number of issues will address those gathered at both
locations, and Ralph Nader will present a keynote address at the end of the
march. (Nader will also be speaking later at 6:30 p.m. that evening at the
Isla Vista Theatre--students $2, non-students $5.)
The march is an opportunity for activists on a number of economic justice
issues to gather and show solidarity with one another. A list of
organizations currently endorsing the march is at the end of this e-mail.
The list is growing nearly daily. If your organization wants to get
involved, feel free to e-mail gabrielcohn [at] hotmail.com or call 455-6474 for
more information. Everyone, regardless of affiliation with any
organization, is encouraged to come and participate in the march!
Last year's march (held on May 12, 2001) gathered nearly a thousand SB-area
activists and featured Julia Butterfly Hill and a number of other speakers.
We expect that this year's march will be even bigger and better.
