Solidarity with Palestine
Palestinian solidarity demonstrations
Demonstration at UC Berkeley
4/9: Hundreds of activists demonstrated in solidarity with Palestine today, marching through UC Berkeley's campus and occupying Wheeler Hall (the home of many Middle Easter studies classes) for several hours. 78 demonstrators were charged and released; one was charged with felony assault on a police officer and brought to Berkeley jail. A small group of marchers chanted outside the jail for several hours until bail was made. Pro-Israel demonstrators were out in smaller numbers, commemorating the victims of the WWII Holocaust.
The demonstration was part of a national day of student action in response to Israeli military aggression and also commemorates the 1948 massacre in the Palestinian village of Deir Yassin.
