Desert Movies: Army tanks and off-roaders trash CA deserts - BERKELEY DEC. 6

by Center for Biological Diversity
DEC. 6: Come to this free Bay Area screening of 2 new indy films about the US military, off-roaders and their harmful effects on the California Desert.
DESERT FILM SCREENINGS: BERKELEY, TUCSON AND SAN DIEGO

The Center announces the screening of two short films that showcase some of the threats facing the spectacular Sonoran and Mojave Desert lands of California and efforts being made by the Center and others to fight for its protection. Issue experts will present background on the issues and answer questions.

"Tanks in the Mojave- Desert Wilderness at Risk": See the ultra-rare Lane Mountain milkvetch and ancient desert tortoise and the threats to their survival in California's majestic Mojave Desert. View the pristine wild lands which will be lost if the Army's Ft. Irwin National Training Center, already the size some eastern states, expands destructive tank training on to over 130,000 acres of these remote valleys and desert mountains.

"Bottles, Throttles, and Preservation: BLM's Desert Quagmire": A film by Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility about the vast and inspiring Algodones Sand Dunes out in the wild Sonoran desert area near Yuma AZ. The Algodones Dunes are home to a number of amazing, rare and endangered plants and animals. The dunes are also ground zero for a million off-road vehicles each year. How will the Bureau of Land Management protect the wildlife unique to these dunes and manage the mayhem that comes with 100,000 off-road vehicles in a weekend?
