Peace Activities in Fresno
Peace activists and those concerned about the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan are busy in Fresno calling attention to hate crime, starvation and dissenting views about the war.
The past week has been very busy. Early in the there were organizing meetings at CSUF, Center for Non-Violence and with the Student Action Front. Then on Thursday Nov. 15th there was a forum at CSUF, “Regrettably Shortsighted Policies” followed that evening by a forum at FCC “Talk Radio and Hate Crimes: Is There a Connection.” On Friday a street protest against the war was followed on Saturday by a silent vigil in solidarity with the starving. Sunday’s teach-in “The War On Terrorism” at Masjid Fresno Mosque wrapped up the last few busy days. The talk radio forum was attended by 180 people, the silent vigil about 40 people and more than 60 people attended the Mosque teach-in.
Fresno peace groups will be continuing street actions on Wednesdays and Fridays. The street action group is planning some Thanksgiving shopping weekend actions. We plan to keep writing letters to our friends, representatives , and local newspapers.
With winter snows imminent, the threat of starvation is looming for millions in Afghanistan. We need to speak out now.
