Two years ago I visited the ultraconservative web site, freerepublic.com, and everybody over there positively HATED George Bush. Today, after reading this article, I visited their web site and everybody is super gung ho for Mr. Bush's war, bashing "The Liberals" and the "peaceniks" acts like nobody ever heard of sleazy goings-on by the Bushes.
Then, I did a search on Yahoo for BCCI and there is hardly nothing about it on the Web. It's like 1984. It never happened! Just like everybody pretends that Bin Laden and the Taliban were never backed by the CIA.
It's scary! An act of unspeakable violence is committed by a monsters created by the U.S. Establishment and these dim-witted "libertarian conservatives" fall right into line behind the U.S. Establishment. A week ago Bush was on the ropes, now he's the dictator of America.
We're not gonna make it.
The deal apparently was that Prince Shrub, aka Baby Bush, gave the Taliban this money in exchange for the Taliban's promise to declare opium growing "against the will of God" and to punish offenders with getting them stoned (a la Shirley Jackson "The Lottery", not Afghani hashish.)
Media Awareness Project (MAP) keeps an archive of news articles related to drug war issues. It is my understanding that they do thoroughly check for authenticity of articles sent in by their factoid collecting volunteers. I will add a caveat here, though... disclaimer in the interests of not repeating the wrongs done by the military-industrialist newsmedia.
I have not yet gone to the LA Times website and checked to see if this article did appear there in May 2001. I urge readers to attempt to verify this before spreading it around. (As soon as I get a moment I'm going to try to verify it myself, with phone calls if necessary.)
I am a natural questioner of ANY piece of news. The story above would - I imagine - be likely to be quite an important thing for America-at-large to note...if it is verifiable. One person has commented to me after I sent him this link that he refuses to believe it because he said "{Media Awareness Project} is not a credible news source."
Well, it's NOT a news SOURCE at all, it is a repository. They leave it up to us to determine what's what - understanding, I suppose, that most of the people dedicated to fighting against the war on drugs are well-versed in questioning all of Reality: not just the parts they disagree with, but the other side as well.
(Sadly, the average American does not have this tendency.)
