An End To All Terror

On September 11th, 2001, four commercial airlines were hijacked by terrorists. One of the planes, reportedly headed towards the White House, ended up plummeting into the Pentagon. Another, possibly headed towards Camp David, went down in rural Pennsylvania. The two most destructive planes crashed into the World Trade Center twin towers, utterly demolishing them. These acts resulted in the loss of possibly tens of thousands of innocent lives.

Members of the US Government and corporate media have already named CIA-trained Osama bin Laden as the one responsible for the attack. Bush has \"declared war\" on those responsible, and presumably, any one who connects in any way with those the US Government decides is behind the attacks. Amidst the emotion and heartache, many people have become swept up in irrational calls for revenge and retaliation, as well as calls for severe limits on freedoms for those within the United States borders. Dick Gephardt stated on Fox News (Live) that congress would, in the coming days, discuss implementing security measures such as ID cards for US citizens which track information about us. He also stated that this was one of the few ways we, as a people, may have to trade in freedom for security in order to achieve (and this is a direct quote) a \"final solution.\"

There is talk from all types of politicians, pundits, and reporters, about how this is the dawn of a \"New World.\" The question that is being avoided is whether it will be a new world determined by the people who inhabit it, or those in power, who will use racism, nationalism, and emotion to further increase their power over all of us, both abroad and at home.

Now is not the time to sit idly by and wait for our leaders to act. Now is the time that we take direct action against those problems which create a world where terrorism and war exist. Not only should we build a strong resistance to all kinds of imperialism, violence, and oppression, but we should build an ever stronger alternative to the world that responds to acts of destruction with bloodlust and demands for blind vengeance.

We need to oppose all racism against those who have been targeted by the ignorant few because of their skin color or religion. We must refuse to stand idly by while Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, immigrants, or any people of color are attacked, and we must build a movement that militantly opposes all racist violence that will come out of this. Neo-Nazis, the KKK, and other White Power and nationalist organizations have just received a massive amount of fuel to add to the fire of their \"Race War.\" Because of this, we must increase our anti-racist organizing ten-fold. We must make sure that their racist actions and beliefs do not take seat amongst people who are angered by the events of Tuesday, September 11th. Furthermore, a network of communities that expresses strong solidarity when any one of them is attacked must be built and expanded across the globe. This will be a strong, determined Anti-Racist movement.

A clear message must to be sent to those in power that we will not tolerate further acts of violence against innocent people, no matter how tempted our leaders are to start waging war. Terrorists anger people by killing innocents. By returning the same to others, the US Government will only be fueling other nation\'s mistrust, and even hatred, of its foreign policies. If we allow a state of war to take hold, we will find ourselves thrown into a constant state of murder, chaos, and destruction. War begets Terrorism, Terrorism begets War, War begets Terrorism, Terrorism begets War, and the cycle will continue until it has destroyed the lives and families of millions across the globe. This is an unacceptable response to the tragedy of September 11th, 2001. We must confront those in power with the message that war will not be tolerated. This will be a watchful and diligent Anti-War movement.

Equally important is the war that will be waged in our own communities and nations. History has shown that governments have always used rogue terrorist attacks to justify the rapid decay of the rights of people. Hitler used the Reichstag Fire as a reason to increase his power, and it will be very tempting for those in positions of power all over the world to do the same. Our freedom of speech, freedom to assemble, freedom of spirituality, freedom of association, and all other freedoms which are necessary for a stable, peaceful society will be continually limited with only the promise of a false security. This is completely unacceptable. Not only must we fight to maintain our freedoms, but we must also fight to increase them to greater levels than ever seen before. Freedom is the root of order, and a society without freedom guarantees chaos. We must stand up for ourselves, and our sisters and brothers, at all times. People of all colors, workers, students, youth, the poor, the homeless, we cannot allow any one segment of people to fall behind or be singled out by those in power. We cannot stand by as people are imprisoned, executed, beaten, harassed, or spied upon by those who would capitalize on this situation. An attack on one is an attack on us all. This will be an organized, militant Anti-Fascist movement.

If there is anything that politicians have said regarding this tragedy that is true, it is that the terrorist attacks of September 11th have changed everything. What we, as a people, have to make sure, is that we direct the change towards a future of peace and freedom, and away from a future of tyranny and war. Those in power may use this opportunity to rally us around their goals, but we must stand up for ourselves and for the good of all people. A powerful resistance to war, terrorism, and tyranny starts now.
