Quebec City Documentary Screening in Santa Cruz on July 24

by Joe Rigney (joe [at] butterflydreams.com)
A new documentary about recent events in Quebec City by Santa Cruz activists Lisa Mastramico and Joe Rigney will be screened at Communtiy Television of Santa Cruz County on July 24. Titled "Going to the Fence", the socumentary tells stories ignored by the coporate media.
In April of 2001, tens of thousands of people from all over the world converged in Quebec City, Canada to protest the Third Summit of the Americas. Thirty four leaders from the entire Western Hemisphere - excluding Cuba - were meeting to negotiate the Free Trade Area of the Americas.

The city of Quebec built a four mile perimeter fence where the meetings would take place. Their goal was simple: to keep the protestors as far away as possible from the leaders who supposedly represent them.

"Going to the Fence," a short documentary by Santa Cruz activists Lisa Mastramico and Joe Rigney, attempts to give a voice to the point of view ignored by the corporate media. Through interviews with people from our own community who traveled to the protests and footage and interviews that were obtained in Quebec, the documentary tells the story of why the wall was built, what it meant, why it was so important to tear it down, and why the protests will continue.
