Santa Cruz: Water vandals continue spree
SANTA CRUZ — The mayor calls them “weapons of moist destruction” — the vandals bent on soaking down Santa Cruz city offices. According to police, eight attacks have caused more than $250,000 in damage to city hall, private law offices, a state parks building and the pressroom of the local paper.

No one has stepped forward to claim responsibility or announce a motive. Police say they have no suspects. Local businesses are offering a $3,000 reward to bring the responsible party to justice.
The latest watery salvo came overnight July 4, when someone shimmied up a tree to a second-floor window at the Santa Cruz Sentinel newspaper, poked the garden nozzle through the screen, and drenched a copy machine.
