PLEASE CONTINUE FOR WAYS THAT YOU CAN HELP AND UPCOMING TACO BELL ACTION IN
BERKELEY!!!!!!!!!!!!
Background:
The Coalition of Immokalee Workers is an organization of farm workers from
south east Florida who have been traveling the country to inform everyone
that they come across about their labor struggles, and the abuse that they
have experienced as workers for "SIX L's Packing Co., Inc.". "Six L's" is
one of the nations leading tomato growers, and is a contractor for Taco
Bell, their largest client.

"Six L's" has denied their workers the right to organize, the right to be
paid for overtime, receive health insurance, and earn a living wage. The
workers are paid 40 cents for every 32 lb. bucket that they pick.. according
to the US Labor Department, the median annual income of a farm worker is
$7,500, not enough to live and support a family.

Because of the risk of losing their jobs, and "Six L's" denial of their
right to organize, the farm workers have tried to negotiate with Taco Bell
for one year, asking them to in turn negotiate with "Six L's" so that their
wages can be raised. For workers to receive a living wage, the price of a
Taco Bell "chalupa" would have to be raised by 1/4 of a penny. Taco Bell
refuses to negotiate with the Coalition. The workers have asked students to
organize boycotts, protests, educational campaigns, and anything else they
can do to encourage Taco Bell to negotiate with "Six L's" Students have
already made statements with the great work that they have done. For more
information check out http://www.ciw-online.org
