The indigenous people of Ecuador are uprising in
protest of their rapidly worsening economic and
environmental situation as a result of aggressive
"structural adjustment" policies imposed by
the International Monetary Fun (IMF).

Thousands have marched on the capital, Quito, blocked
roads and bridges, and held occupations of important
centers. Police have opened fire in at least one
case, killing at least four demonstrators and
injuring many more.

Please join in solidarity with the people of
Ecuador at emergency protests this week.

At the Art and Revolution space in 2940 16th at Capp
(the red stone building). A related meeting about the
FTAA is there at 7 PM, banner-making at 9 PM. "Take
the stairs, not the elevator".

* Emergency Rally Thursday Feb. 8

There is an emergency rally planned
at the Ecuadorian Consulate in
San Francisco, 4 PM, Thursday,
February 8th, 455 Market.

* Reclaim the Streets Friday Feb. 9

There will be a Reclaim the Streets Party
and Protest during Berkeley Critical Mass
this Friday, February 9th.

The mass meets at 5:30 to depart after 6:00.
Expect a great show. Meeting location for
non-bicyclists: College and Bancroft, 6 PM.
