Berekelyside's editor-In-chief says homeless death is low priority news
Roberto Benitas, a homeless Berkeley resident, died in his sleep. His body was found the next morning on September 18th. Frances Dinkelspiel, the editor-in-chief of Berkeleyside, was asked by a local reader why the death was not reported by the website, and the response was "people die all the time". Dinkelspiel continued by writing that the death was a low priority and didn't have as great an impact on the community compared to the stories they did cover....

Dutch parliament increases climate targets: 25 percent by 2020, 55 percent by 2030
The Netherlands parliament, in a non-binding vote, decided to increase their countries emission reduction targets to 25 percent by 2020 and 55 percent by 2030. This will almost certainly require the shut down of the 5 remaining coal fired power stations to achieve these targets....

Oakland, CA, September 20, 2016 - The national health watchdog Center for Environmental Health (CEH) has filed a lawsuit against Dow Chemical to address cancer risks posed by its fumigant pesticide Telone. Telone (a trade name for the chemical 1,3-Dichloropropene or 1,3-D) is a known carcinogen that pollutes dozens of rural areas throughout California; it is the third most heavily used pesticide in the state, and has been found to linger in the air for days after application....

Peloton Hedge Fund Bankrupt Operator Ron Beller and his wife Jennifer Moses were rejected for taking over the 8 acre Adams Middle School in Richmond for $60,000 for a privately run Caliber charter school. Now he is trying to get the school district to vote to support a Caliber Charter Highschool. This would likely lead to the shutdown of Richmond High and other WCCSD high schools....
