How to Publish to Indybay

by Indybay volunteers

You are encouraged to publish your news coverage, analysis, comments, and event announcements to the site.

San Francisco Bay Area Independent Media Center (Indybay) is an open publishing website, which means that you are encouraged to publish your news coverage, analysis, comments, and event announcements to the site. Posts to the newswire automatically go to the "Other/Breaking News" section on the front page. Editors classify all posts according to whether or not they have a local focus.

We want to have more people publishing news to the site, from event announcements to reports on what happened at the police commission hearing or whatever, we want people to tell their stories.

How to Publish an Event to the Calendar

At the top of the homepage, click the link that says, "Add an Event". Please include a flyer, if possible, to help promote the event. To include a flyer or other file, scroll down to the bottom of the page where it says "Upload Attachments". Go to the dropdown menu there and select the number of files, up to 3. The page will display additional fields. Next, browse on your computer to find each file's location.

How to Publish to the Newswire

At the top of the homepage, click the link that says, "Publish Your News". Do you have photos, a flyer, or audio or video files? If so, scroll down to the bottom of the publish page where it says "Upload Attachments". Go to the dropdown menu there and select the number of files, up to 20. The page will display additional fields. Next, browse on your computer to find each file's location.

You must also include a title, author, summary (this can be the first paragraph of the main text, for example) and the main text. Please also should choose a topic and a location. Make sure to use a title that reflects what the content is. That way people will be more likely to click on the article and read it.

Point out the list of feature pages on the left side of the page. We cover issues ranging from police and prisons to the environment to lesbian, gay, etc issues, to womyn's concerns to the government and elections.

If you are interested in getting more involved or have questions, please check out Indybay's about and contact pages.
