Half a dozen cited, photographer arrested at Freedom Sleepers Protest

At midnight, ten police officers converged on 20 Freedom Sleepers at City Hall, some awake with petitions on the public accessway, some asleep on the grass. The officers refused to respect the right to view public agendas posted at City Hall, or the language of the "Park Closing" law. Sleepers angrily objected to the demands of police that they leave, most going to the sidewalk. Two were given additional Stay-Away orders for 24 hours. Israel Dawson, a UCSC photographer was handcuffed and arrested for "not identifying himself" and "walking away" according to the officer who took him. We are continuing our protest--our 5th night here on the sidewalk, determined to rouse the conscience of the community against the Sleeping Ban.
