A regiment of Negroes marched through Beacon Street in Boston, “An imposing sight, with something wild and strange about it, like a dream. At last the North consents to let the Negro fight for freedom.” These unknown, unappreciated and unsung heroes to the forward flow of humanity are the reason for Memorial Day, it is time to recognize them. US Colored Troops from California in the US Civil War answered the call from the Emancipation Proclamation
