Add comment on:Well Failures Fracking California's Future
“Are New Fracking Regulations in California Enough?” is the companion article to the Sunset Travel Magazine's article on “The Future of Fracking in California”. The Sunset article, concludes with Paula Getzelman who “believes a moratorium is the best interim measure “to allow time to gather some evidence, whichever way it might go, and allow for more reasonable discussion on both sides.” Some things though, can't be fixed. Dr. Anthony Ingraffea's work is quoted, but what his research actually shows, is that the rate of failures for new wells is 6-7% in the first year. By year 3, it is upwards of 20 per cent, or 1 in 5 wells. The most recent experience with shale gas wells in the Pennsylvania Marcellus play reflects long term, world-wide industry data with respect to new wells with compromised structural integrity. And it's only a matter of time.
