With a call out to women, queers, gender rebels, and allies, Feminist Vigilante Gangs organized a march through downtown Oakland on October 5th to coincide with the broader West Coast Anti-Colonial, Anti-Capitalist actions and First Friday's Art Murmur locally. After participants in groups of 10-15 practiced protecting themselves from aggressors, well over 100 marchers left 19th Street and Telegraph and wound throughout downtown for two hours, crossing the several-block long Art Murmur event intermittently and stopping at notable locations such as the intersection of 13th Street and Franklin, where Brandy Martell, an African American transgender woman, was murdered on April 28th. Chants declared a sense of empowerment and collective determination to no longer suffer attacks and harassment from misogynists and homophobes.
