Occupy Oakland General Strike and Mass Day of Action Press Conference, 10/31/11: photosDave Id
On October 26th -- just one day after hundreds of police raided and destroyed the Occupy Oakland encampments at Oscar Grant Plaza and Snow park and then later attacked over one thousand people with tear gas, flash bang grenades, and projectile weapons -- Occupy Oakland not only re-occupied the plaza but seriously upped the ante by voting 1484 to 46 for the first general strike in the United States in sixty-five years. Endorsements and support for Occupy Oakland have been pouring in since. On October 31st, a press conference was held in Latham Square, at the intersection of Telegraph & Broadway, the epicenter of the Oakland General Strike of 1946. The General Strike & Mass Day of Action will happen Wednesday, November 2nd.
