Amid one of California's largest civil and human rights cases, only one month after Los Angeles Coalition for Justice for Oscar Grant and the late Grant's family and community condemning judge "Rampart Robert Perry'" for ruling early release of convicted killer former policeman Johannes Mehserle, and the Grant Coalition calling on Eric Holder to bring federal charges of violation of civil rights, on Friday, Grant's friend and witness to police killing him, Johntue Caldwell has also been shot dead in what police say was not a random shooting. Caldwell had a $5-million lawsuit against Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) police scheduled to begin in one month.
