Add comment on:MUST-HEAR Early Morning Phone Call to Al Jazeera from Mona Seif in Tahir Square, Egypt
al jazeera english
This is a call-in to AL Jazeera from Egyptian pro-democracy demonstrator Mona Seif that just happened about an hour or two ago from Tahir Square as plain-clothes police and other thugs attacked pro-democracy demonstrators throughout the night. The news host is kind of annoying, sort of exploitive-sounding, but the call from Mona Seif is simply gut-wrenching. The exhaustion, fear, and sheer determination to carry on is incredibly inspiring. She says there is no turning back at this point, in order to honor those who have fallen and because she knows Mubarak would hunt her and all the other demonstrators down if they just gave up and went home. She forcefully asks how the world could let this happen if people outside Egypt really do care. You've gotta hear this! No reporter could ever capture the spirit of the moment in the square this way.
