Town Hall for Justice Responds to BART and Oakland Police Murder of Fred Collins, 7/17/11: audio
In this week's Town Hall for Justice for Oscar Grant, in addition to following up on the recent involuntary manslaughter conviction of Johannes Mehserle, speakers and attendees grapple with yet another police murder. This time it was the killing of Fred Collins, shot to death near the Fruitvale BART station by five police officers, two from BART and three from OPD, just hours before the Town Hall. While numerous facts surrounding the killing were unknown at the time, with a sketchy police account being the only available version of events, Oakland police, Mayor Ron Dellums, and BART rushed out a joint press release the same day.
