Delta Vision Foundation to Hold Public Meeting on Monday June 1, 10 a.m.
After Arnold Schwarzenegger's Delta Vision Blue Ribbon Task Force last year finished its controversial report that recommended building a peripheral canal, the dirty work of the panel was supposed to have been completed. However, this "august body" of political hacks appointed by Schwarzegger, the worst Governor for fish and the environment in California history, has resurrected itself as the "Delta Vision Foundation." The Delta Vision Foundation will hold a public meeting in downtown Sacramento to release "a mid-term Report Card on the state’s performance in shaping policy to restore the Sacramento/San Joaquin Delta and ensure a reliable water supply for California." You can expect to hear more grandstanding about the "coequal goals" of water supply and "ecosystem restoration" in this meeting at time when California's fisheries are in their greatest ever crisis ever. Central Valley Chinook salmon, delta smelt, longfin smelt, green sturgeon and other Delta fish have collapsed to record low population levels in recent years, due to massive increases in water exports and a decline in water quality. What we need is not another meeting of the reincarnated, failed Delta Vision Blue Ribbon Task Force, but immediate action by the state and federal governments to address these fish declines and their devastating economic impact of these collapses on the California economy! Here's the public notice:
