Town Hall for Justice on AB312, BART, Orloff Recall, and Caravan for Justice III, Oakland, 4/18/09: audio
dave id
Town Halls for Justice for Oscar Grant continue after the recent Caravan for Justice II in Sacramento on April 8th. After an opening prayer by Reverend Henry Williams in the first piece of audio here, Minister Keith Muhammad speaks about the ongoing effort to recall Alameda DA Tom Orloff. While registered Alameda County voters in attendance sign the latest version of the petition to recall Orloff, Minister Keith reads the petition which specifies the reasons for the recall and will serve as official notification of the intent to recall Orloff. Minister Keith goes on to address the Public Safety Committee hearing on Tuesday, April 14th regarding AB312 and BART's civilian police oversight, at which a possible vote was scuttled by a last-minute letter from the BART Board of Directors. Oakland City Councilmember Desley Brooks, also in attendance at the hearing, goes into detail about the hearing and adds that BART did not notify the public about a supposed public meeting on Monday, April 20th which was scheduled to deal with civilian police oversight, and how that typifies BART's pattern of deciding what they want to do in private before even hearing from the public.
