Daily Californian On The Wrong Side of Dissent
The Daily Californian and The Daily Clog, two official student publications at UC Berkeley, have consistently demeaned student activists on campus and in Berkeley. Most recently, the Californian and the Clog came out against those supporting the Berkeley City Council resolution regarding military recruitment centers. But the justification it used--"free speech"--was absurd, given the power dynamic between the government and Berkeley citizens. Furthermore, and from a more general perspective, the Californian has consistently offered useless criticisms of student activists that have consistently aligned it, in effect, with the status quo.
