An Incomplete History of Activism at UC Santa Cruz - Timeline
josh sonnenfeld
The following timeline was included as part of my senior thesis for Feminist Studies, Spring 2007. For a better formatted version, including sources, see the attached PDF. The full thesis can be obtained from the Feminist Studies Department. It includes: I. Introduction II. Situating UC Santa Cruz (history of the town and how the university fits in, some of which has been reprinted in the 2007 Disorientation Guide) III. Timeline IV. Gaps and Blind Spots V. Trends a. Faculty Firings, Tenure Denials and Student Movements VI. Conclusion ---- The timeline starts with the founding of the University in 1965 and ends in November of 2006. There are many holes and gaps (hence it being 'incomplete'), but its a compilation of much of the resources I could find and will hopefully help all of you to better understand UCSC and our activist tradition. Make sure to check out the footnotes and sources - there is a wealth of information on various events and movements that you can access. Enjoy!
