This past weekend Virginia became the first state in the country to pass a resolution apologizing for the state's role in slavery. Now, a federal bill that would establish a commission to study reparations proposals for African Americans has a chance to finally pass in Congress. New York, Atlanta and other major U.S. city governments have passed resolutions supporting the bill and Congress should too, says New America Media writer Earl Ofari Hutchinson.
