Nightmare on Post Street
[T]he tenants at 1030 Post Street have struggled for the last several months to save their homes, as the new landlord attempts to raise their rent or kick them out – all under the auspices of “creating” affordable housing. KDF Communities, an Orange County-based property management company, bought the 64-unit building and applied for a federal tax credit to run it as a “rent-regulated” building. Tenants who were above or below the program’s income guidelines were told they must leave, and those who qualify will have their rents raised considerably. Now that the tenants got a lawyer, held a protest and went to the Rent Board, KDF has taken its campaign of intimidation and harassment to an entirely new level.
