A charter amendment discussed Thursday at the Rules Committee would require the Mayor to attend a regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Supervisors once per month. No law currently compels the Mayor and the Board to engage in official dialogue on current events; conversely, no law specifically restricts this interaction either. Believing that open lines of communication between the branches will improve the quality of government in San Francisco, Supervisor Chris Daly’s proposal asks for the Mayor’s routine attendance at meetings so that he/she may “respond to questions posed to him or her by members of the Board.”
