International Fund for Animal Welfare investigates whaling practices
The International Fund for Animal Welfare has examined video footage taken by Greenpeace that shows a harpooned whale fighting for its life alongside a Japanese whaling ship in an international whale sanctuary near Antarctica. Leading international law expert, Professor Don Rothwell, has advised IFAW that the Japanese Government is breaching international laws with JARPA II. He has advised that the Australian Government has very strong grounds to take Japan to the International Law of the Sea to stop "scientific" whaling. Australian Environment Minister, Senator Ian Campbell, has dismissed the advice.
