BAMN is a group that exists at several campuses in addition to Berkeley, and is known to be sponsored by a trotskyist group that takes a moderate affirmative action issue that probably the majority of the population supports and makes it seem like an extremely radical cause. Many progressives in Berkeley can't stomach their top-down organizational structure, and don't want to be associated with previous badly managed events that have become embarrassing. A few of their activists are nice people who are pleasant to be around, but it is pretty shocking to learn that the FBI is actually investigating them, yet has found no evidence of terrorist activity.
