 Wiretapping  There has never been a more urgent need to preserve 
 fundamental privacy protections and our system of checks and balances than 
 the need we face today, as illegal government spying, provisions of the USA 
 PATRIOT Act and government-sponsored torture programs transcend the bounds 
 of law and our most treasured values in the name of national security.  
 Panelists:  Mark Schlossberg, is the Police Practice Legal Policies 
 Director, of the ACLU Northern CA.  The American Civil Liberties Union is 
 the only national organization dedicated to defending and expanding the 
 civil liberties of all people.  Lee Tien is a senior staff attorney with 
 the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF).   He works on free speech and 
 privacy issues.  Since 9/11 he has worked on a variety of topics including 
 electronic surveillance, National Security Letters, the Foreign 
 Intelligence Surveillance Act, data-mining, biometrics and RFID.  He has 
 written law review articles on anonymous speech, software as speech, 
 encryption and data-mining.  He did his undergraduate work at Stanford 
 University and his law degree at UC-Berkeley.  Location: New College of
