Star Gali 510.862.1941 SAN FRANCISCO, CA – Members of ECHOES Save the
Peaks Coalition Bay Area Coalition to Protect Sacred Sites New College of
California and International Indian Treaty Council are collaborating to
bring you Save the Peaks benefit show, Sunday April 16 at 6:00 P.M at the
Women's Building in San Francisco, 3543 18th St, San Francisco. The
Arizona Snowbowl ski resort, located on the San Francisco Peaks in Northern
Arizona, is attempting to expand its development by clear-cutting 74 acres
of wilderness; making artificial snow from contaminated waste water and
more. Over thirteen Native American Nations hold The Peaks sacred, and
they are home to threatened species. On January 11, 2006, the U.S. District
Court ruled against the tribes and environmental groups to stop the U.S.
Forest Service and Arizona Snowbowl. An appeal has been filed and the
case will be heard at the 9th circuit level in San Francisco. The specific
intent of the Save the Peaks benefit show is to raise travel funds for
elders and traditional community members that otherwise would not have the
means to travel to San Francisco during the critical time of the court
hearing. Carly Long of the Flagstaff Activist network says "There is still
an opportunity for justice to be served at the 9th Circuit level in San
Francisco, CA and we will appeal the District Court's ruling in this case".
